Krzysztof Komeda Trzciński – A Jazz Icon from Poznań
Krzysztof Komeda Trzciński is an iconic figure in Polish jazz and film music, yet few people know he was born and raised in Poznań. The Mastershot Foundation, which for several years has been organizing film workshops focused on one-shot filmmaking, is now turning its attention to the legacy of this remarkable musician from Poznań. During a three-day workshop taking place from November 21–23, participants and organizers will create a short film centered around the theme of Komeda.
Krzysztof KOMEDA Trzciński was a legendary Polish jazz musician — a versatile, brilliant artist whose contributions to cinema were immense. He collaborated with directors such as Roman Polański, Andrzej Wajda, and Jerzy Skolimowski, and was a key figure in the development of modern Polish jazz alongside Jan “Ptaszyn” Wróblewski, Jerzy Milian, and Tomasz Stańko. The famous musical theme from Rosemary’s Baby was composed by Komeda. He was a prolific film composer and enjoyed an international career.
During the November workshop, organizers and participants will shoot a several-minute one-shot film (commonly known as a mastershot), reflecting the jazz atmosphere of Poznań during Komeda’s youth. Contemporary elements will also be included, as the cinematic language employed by the filmmakers and instructors is multidimensional. Jazz — and Komeda’s music in particular — will be an essential part of the project and will also be featured in the film’s soundtrack. The film will be shot on November 23 at the Blue Note Jazz Club.
But first, everyone interested is invited to the introductory meeting on November 21 at 6:00 PM at the University of the Arts in Poznań (Pl. Wielkopolski 9), where the project’s concept will be presented. The organizers are especially looking for people who would like to act in the film and learn what it’s like “behind the scenes” to produce a film in one long take.
